Hello Trinity Family,
This upcoming Sunday is commonly called “Good Shepherd Sunday” and is one of my favorites of the liturgical year. Psalm 23 is a prayer I know by heart. It’s incredibly comforting to me knowing that the Lord is guiding us through our struggles. Envisioning Jesus as a shepherd allows me to accept his guidance in areas I have no control over.
For this meditation, I offer “The Lord’s My Shepherd” arranged by Donald Hustad. The link to the video is HERE.
Here are the lyrics for your reflection (a paraphrasing of Psalm 23):

The Lord’s my shepherd, I’ll not want.
He makes me down to lie
In pastures green; He leadeth me
The quiet waters by.
My soul He doth restore again;
And me to walk doth make
Within the paths of righteousness,
Even for His own Name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk in death’s dark vale,
Yet will I fear no ill;
For Thou art with me; and Thy rod
And staff my comfort still.
My table Thou hast furnishèd
In presence of my foes;
My head Thou dost with oil anoint,
And my cup overflows.
Goodness and mercy all my life
Shall surely follow me;
And in God’s house forevermore
My dwelling place shall be.

Blessings,
Angela

Possible Scam

Anita received an email this morning from an account pretending to be Pastor Kern. This email had stilted grammar, and minimal punctuation. This email came from an account that has an email address that was attempting to look like a Trinity account.  The email was also signed, Pastor Eugene, and was asking for “assistance.” We know that at least one other member of the congregation has received a similar email.

It looks like Trinity may be targeted by a scam attempt by someone attempting to be the pastor. Other churches have encountered this, and there is minimal recourse, as we are not being hacked. Please be careful when you are reading and responding to your email. If you have any concern or doubt that the email came from PK, please email, call him directly, or email office@trinityelca.org (and we will get the message to PK), and do not respond to the questionable email. DO NOT SEND MONEY OR GIFT CARDS to this person.

The Stories of Our Lives

Join me via the Zoom link below on Wednesdays, at 7 pm for an examination of the stories of our lives.  As we listen and speak to one another, we’ll be fascinated by what we hear, laugh out loud, and maybe even cry a little.  And through it all, we will see God.
Blessings,
Pr. Kern

David K has been leading the Adult Forum via Zoom. Today, we discussed some lament psalms. David wrote this lament in response to our current times.

Lament in the Time of COVID-19
Why Lord are we afflicted with this deadly infection?
This plague sweeps through our cities and towns,
Infecting young and old, rich and poor, all nations and races.
Our churches are shuttered.
Restaurants, stadiums and theaters are closed.
Our hospitals are filled with the sick and dying.
Those on the front lines risk their lives to protect us, to feed us, to keep us alive!
We are shut in our houses.
You feel so far from us, O Lord!
Yet we know that you are with us, even in these terrible times.
You are at the sick bed, in the intensive care unit and in the morgue.
You ride with the paramedics, with the firemen and with the police.
You watch over the grocery clerk, the factory and warehouse worker, those who deliver food and necessities to our doors.
Take this terrible affliction from our lives.
Inspire scientists, physicians and other working on cures and vaccines.
Give us the strength we need to persevere and recover.
We especially ask your help for (…)
For you are great, O Lord.
Awesome and mighty, nothing is beyond your ability
You even sent us your son, Jesus, the Messiah, that we might be reconciled to you.
We sing your praises, O Lord.
Separately now, but soon we will be together again.
Because you have blessed us with a wonderful community and given us your grace to share with all.

David

Hello Trinity Family,
For this week’s music meditation I offer “What Wondrous Love is This” arranged by Albert Zabel. While Spring has come, flowers are blooming, and the sun is shining, I’ve found myself missing your company. I especially miss our musicians and our singers and the music we all make together. It’s so much harder to sing on our own! I look forward to when we will be worshipping and singing in person together again.
The hymn text for your prayerful reflection:
What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this,
That caused the Lord of bliss,
To bear the dreadful curse,
For my soul, for my soul,
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul.To God and to the Lamb, I will sing, I will sing!
To God and to the Lamb, I will sing, I will sing!
To God and to the Lamb, Who is the great “I AM, “
While millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing!
While millions join the theme, I will sing. And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on!
And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on,
And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing and joyful be,
And thro’ eternity, I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on,
And thro’ eternity, I’ll sing on.

Blessings,
Angela

Dear Trinity Family,
We choose to stay connected.  How’s that going for you?  Are you able to be in touch with people who love you and that you love?  Are you telling stories to your children about what it was like when you were their age (no pandemic).  Even though we all miss the physical proximity of those we love, I hope your connections remain strong.
We choose to be encouraging.  I got a email the other day from my physician’s practice.  In it they laid out their procedures for being seen, receiving care, etc.  It’s all different now!  But his message ended with an encouraging word that care was still available and no one would be ignored.  I hope that as the body of Christ, we are encouraging one another in a similar way.  No one receives too much encouragement!
We remember the future.  Easter teaches us this.  The darkest moments of this life are but a prelude to the brightness of new life.  A little house finch has built a nest at the top of a column on my front porch.  I’m grateful we seem to have a very tidy nest!  But it’s also a daily reminder that the future is coming! and soon there will be a little bird to welcome it!
Christ is risen.  Alleluia!
Pastor Kern

Trinity Friends,
There’s an old saying that if you want to tell me the truth, tell me a story.  Stories are the most powerful things in the world.  The Bible is basically a book of stories.  Jesus told stories.  The history of the church, even the world, is stories.  And so if your life.
Your life tells a story – family of origin, quests, circumstances – and it is a unique story and a wonderful story!  At the same time, your story is part of the story of the whole people of God in the world.  Think of a quilt.  Your story is a striking, vibrant square in a quilt as vast as the stars.
I’d like to invite you to spend some time with me telling and listening to the stories of our lives – where we have been, where we think we’re going, even, where we might have seen or felt the presence of God in our story.
Join me via the Zoom link below starting this Wednesday, April 22nd, at 7 pm for a four week examination of the stories of our lives.  As we listen and speak to one another, we’ll be fascinated by what we hear, laugh out loud, and maybe even cry a little.  And through it all, we will see God.
Blessings,Pr Kern

Hello Trinity family,
This sure isn’t a typical Easter season! While I usually spend Holy Week frantically travelling between churches for rehearsals and services, this year I was forced to slow down and take in the holidays. With all of our audio and video preparation for the services taken care of in advance, I had the opportunity to spend Holy Week celebrating each day in my own way. For the first time, I was able to create my own Easter traditions.
As this week’s meditation, I offer “Adagio in D flat” by Franz Lizst. I feel this slow, majestic piece complements this year’s Easter celebration. After the busy back-to-back services of the Triduum, I pray that we can relax and enjoy this time of resurrection.
Blessings,
Angela
