A Guide For First Time Visitors
Welcome to Trinity!
- When are services?
- Holy Communion is offered at 8:15 and 10:45 every Sunday morning. Our Worship Page also has descriptions of our festival and other special services. During July and August, the second service meets at 10am.
- How do I find the Church?
- The home page offers directions, bus lines and map links. Please feel free to call the church office (301-881-7275) if you need assistance.
- Where should I park?
- You are welcome to park in our lot on the south side of the building. If the lot is full you can park along Luxmanor Drive; exit the parking lot opposite the Old Georgetown Road entrance. If you must park along that street, please park on the church side of the street and pull off the road so as not to block traffic. You should not park on Old Georgetown Road or in the Doctor's office lot north of the building.
- What are your communion practices?
- We celebrate communion at all Sunday services. All baptized Christians are encouraged to share in this meal of life. The usher will invite you to the altar rail. The host will be placed in your hand. You may eat the host and drink from the first chalice, or you may dip the host in the second chalice and then eat the host. If you wish to commune, but cannot come to the altar, please speak with an usher.
- I don't know if my kids will be able to sit through a whole service. Is there any help?
- For children under three, there is a nursery service provided. Any member should be able to direct you to the nursery. During many services, there will be a children's worship session for three to six year olds during the sermon and the offering. An announcement will be made at the time. There are also chairs in the social hall, and there are speakers and glass doors so that you can hear and see the activities in the Sanctuary if you feel the need to step out of the room. If the speakers are turned off in the social hall, an usher should be able to help you.
- Does Trinity offer Sunday School classes?
- Beginning at 9:30 Sunday mornings, and lasting about an hour, we offer a number of different Sunday School classes, both for children and adults. Please have a look at our Education page for this and other education opportunities at Trinity. Sunday school is not offered in July and August.
- Can I get baptized/married/confirmed at Trinity?
- You should speak with Pastor Berner. He will be happy to assist you with your request.
- How do I join Trinity?
- We invite all people who are interested in joining the congregation to attend a six week Adult Inquiry class, led by Pastor Berner. This class is an opportunity to ask questions, learn more about the Christian faith from a Lutheran perspective, and decide whether or not this is the time that that you would like to become a member of the congregation. We receive new members twice a year: at the Easter Vigil and in November. Please speak with Pastor Berner about your interest.
- I enjoy music. Is there a group I can get involved with?
- We have many musical opportunities for interested folks. There is an adult vocal choir, a children's choir, and a bell choir. The bell choir director in particular has brought along players from all levels of musical training, so there are certainly places for everyone!
