Andrew Welch
Music Director
Andrew Welch is currently active and sought after in the Washington D.C. area as a pianist, organist, conductor and composer. He has performed at The Kennedy Center, the United States Congress, the State Department, numerous embassies and diplomatic organizations and has worked with the Washington National Opera, Miss D.C. and QuinTango. In addition to performing, Andrew currently maintains an active private studio and serves as a coach and collaborator for artists in a broad spectrum of styles.
Andrew joined Trinity Lutheran Church as Director of Music Ministry in the fall of 2011. As the Director of Music Ministry, Andrew conducts the Trinity Singers, coordinates special music with instrumentalists and Trinity’s Heavenly Handbells, and performs on the 28-rank Nobscot organ.
Since joining the family at Trinity Lutheran Church, Andrew has composed and added several new works, including two new anthems for choir, pieces for flute and numerous organ works. On All Saints Day in 2012 the choir premiered Andrew’s edition of Salvator Mundi by Palestrina, transcribed specifically with the Trinity Singers in mind. On Easter 2013, choir, brass and timpani premiered Andrew’s setting of John Donne’s Holy Sonnet VII.
In the fall of 2012, Andrew led the music and worship committee in a fundraising drive to purchase two new timpani for use in celebration and worship. The drive was an unprecedented success and Trinity Lutheran Church is now the proud owner of two brand-new Adams timpani.
Andrew graduated magna cum laude in 2011 from American University with the Evelyn Swarthout Hayes award for University service and is pursuing a Masters in Music from the University of Maryland.
Marilyn Converse
Director of Handbells
Marilyn picked up her first bells in 1981, at Good Shepherd Lutheran in Pittsburgh, and has not wanted to put them down since. Four years later, she brought her love of bells to Trinity Lutheran and founded its handbell choir. She is a member of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers and is currently serving as the Area 3 Maryland District Representative.
