New Orleans Relief
Given the devastation that New Orleans has recently endured from Hurricane Ida, this weekend we will be receiving special offerings to help offer relief to that area. You may bring checks (labeled New Orleans) or cash (in an envelope labeled New Orleans) and Trinity will ensure it goes to relief efforts in the area. You may also give directly online through Lutheran Disaster Response.
Interfaith 5K | Labor Day, September 6th
Don’t forget to sign up for the Montgomery County Interfaith 5K taking place on Labor Day morning, this Monday September 6th. Your outpouring of support in Trinity’s inaugural year as a race partner has been amazing; thank you! Our goal of a 25-person Team Trinity is within reach—we only need several more runners/joggers/walkers. If you have not yet registered, please do at mocointerfaith5k.org. Registration is $35/person. And don’t forget, there is a Tot Trot for children 5 and under and a Kids 1K Fun Run for youth between 6 and 12. Kids of all ages are welcome!!!
If you prefer not to participate in the race, but are happy to volunteer, here is the link to sign up: MoCo Interfaith 5K: Volunteer Opportunities (signupgenius.com). We need an array of volunteers on race morning, working various tables, serving as course marshals, post-race cleanup, and so on. Thanks in advance for your willingness to help. For more information on the race, please contact Pastor Christine or Tom Kern (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Trinity T-Shirts Have Arrived
If you ordered a shirt, they will be available for pickup on Sunday (9/5). If you have not yet paid, please bring cash or a check (made out to Trinity) with you.
If you missed the ordering deadline and would like to get a tee shirt, I have two extras in large and medium in iris blue and one large in gold. Plus what I think was a print shop error, I have 6 large in Carolina blue as well. If you would like one of the extras, please email me directly and I’ll put your name on one.
Area congregations are being targeted as a part of a fraud effort. Emails are circulating that seem to be either from Pastor Christine, or from someone who claims to have talked to Pastor Christine. Do NOT send money, gift cards, or even respond to the emails. They are very cunning in their attempts. Pastor Christine will never ask you for money or gift cards via email. If in doubt, please open a separate email and contact her directly or call the office. You can ‘inspect’ email addresses. Often upon doing this, you’ll note that it is not the same address that Trinity uses or Pastor Christine uses.
September Trinitarian Now Available!
Join us for Worship this Sunday!
James tells us to stop showing favoritism in the assembly, treating the rich visitor with more honor than the poor one. Jesus himself seems to show partiality in his first response to the Syrophoenician woman in today’s gospel. Was he testing her faith in saying Gentiles don’t deserve the goods meant for God’s children? Or was he speaking out of his human worldview, but transcended those limits when she took him by surprise with her reply? Either way, the story tells us that God shows no partiality. Everyone who brings a need to Jesus is received with equal honor as a child and heir.
On Sunday, August 29th (@9:30am) we began indoor in person worship. You can read about our decision and the protocols in place here (signup is necessary HERE or through the church office). We will also be offering a live stream option for those who would prefer to worship at home or while on vacation (accessible through our webpage or Youtube channel). We know there is a lot of change happening, and we hope these changes will allow us to worship in a more familiar format, while providing extended access to those who cannot attend in-person. If you have questions, please reach out to Pastor Christine (email@example.com).
Music Leaders Needed
“During our transition to livestreaming, we are also moving our music indoors. Until it is safe to sing as a congregation again, we will continue to invite cantors to sing hymns like we did for the outdoor services this summer. If you would like to lead hymns or provide an instrumental offering during worship, please sign up using the following link, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org, or talk to me directly on Sunday morning.
Worship Assistants Needed!
In order for our services each Sunday to run smoothly, we need your help! Please contact the church office if you are available to help as a: lector, cantor, welcome team member, altar guild, teller, or online greeter.

Stephen Ministry Training at Trinity
A new Training class for Stephen Ministers will begin on Friday evening, September 24. Stephen Ministry is a lay ministry in which the Stephen Minister is trained to care for someone on a one-to-one basis and meets with that person once a week, on average, for as long as the person needs care. Would you like to train to become a Stephen Minister and walk with another Christian who is going through a difficult time in their life? If so, please let Pastor Christine, Susan Smith, or Miriam Mendenhall know. The course takes 50 hours to complete and meets twice a month, September through March. We’d love to have you join our Training class and become a Stephen Minister for Trinity.
Summer Collection School Supplies for Lutheran World Relief (LWR)
Social Ministry has some great things in the works for God’s Work, Our Hands Day over September 11-12. More info will follow soon…but we need to start collecting school supplies now for our Sunday Morning Service project.
LWR sends school kits to many locations worldwide to allow children in refugee camps to continue learning in the face of serious obstacles. Beginning in July and continuing throughout the summer, Trinity will collect the school supplies listed below to assemble 200 kits. On God’s Work Our Hands Sunday, September 12, Trinity will assemble the school kits during an Intergenerational Sunday School. Bins will be available at parking lot church. If you would like to drop them off at a different time, please contact the office or Anita, and we will make sure someone is in the office to receive them.
|530||Black or blue ballpoint pens (no gel ink)|
|90||Box of 16 or 24 crayons|
Please note: LWR asks that all kit items be new and have no religious symbols, messages, or patriotic or military symbols. Please contact Kathy Thrower or Anita Smallin with any questions.
Helping Afghan Allies
Lutheran Social Services (LSS) is reaching out with immediate needs due to the influx of Afghan refugees arriving in this area. They are in need of drivers, storage space, rooms on a temporary basis, and housing settlement. If you are able to help individually with any of these needs, please fill out the form here, and they will contact you.
