Trinity Tidings | December 9, 2021

+WORSHIP | ONLINE AND IN PERSON | 9:30 AM+

Christ’s presence in our midst in the wonder of the holy supper is cause for singing. The nearness of the God in prayer, in every circumstance, is cause for rejoicing. The coming of one “more powerful” than John, even with a winnowing fork in hand, is good news—and cause for exultation—for us who are being saved. Great joy is the tone for the third Sunday of Advent.

This Week’s Online Bulletin: HERE

Readings for this Sunday
Zephaniah 3: 14-20
Luke 3: 1-18

Read our in person worship protocols here before RSVP’ing

If you are a confirmed member of Trinity and did not receive an email on Thursday with information for our semi-annual congregational meeting, please contact either Pastor Christine (pastor@trinitiyelca.org) or Jerry Boelger (jboegler@yahoo.com) and they will make sure you receive the documents.

Our 2022 Stewardship Packets, containing pledge cards and Time and Talent sheets, were mailed out, with the theme This is OUR Community. Please prayerfully consider supporting Trinity with your Time, Talent, and Treasure over the coming year. The Time and Talent sheet is especially important to complete, as our office, music, and pastoral staff are all new in the past two years. Please help them by filling this out!

Our semi-annual congregational meeting will be held December 12th at 11am. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss and approve the annual budget and changes to the MEF bylaws. The meeting will be held both in-person and via Zoom. Join us in person or via Zoom here

Chrismons for Social Hall Tree
If you have a completed painted wooden ornament or colored bead kit for the tree that goes in the social hall, please bring them by Trinity as soon as possible, either during office hours or this weekend.

As many know, Catherine Kapikian served for many years on the faculty of Wesleyan Theological Seminary and founded the Henry Luce Center for the Arts and Religion. Her artistic works and her theological insight is sought after for its depth of meaning, its intrigue, and its beauty. Most recently she created a mural for the refectory of Weleyanm where she re-imagines da Vinaic’s Last Supper. This work was recently unveiled (delayed due to COVID) and you can view it here (along with an interview with Cathy).

Dreams Needed! Video or Written Format! Where, what do you dream Trinity to be 3 years from now?…That is the question we’re asking you, members, friends, and family of Trinity. Over the next couple of weeks or so, answers to this question will be collected and compiled into a short montage video. There are 2 ways of getting your dreams in…Sunday mornings at church I or another member will be happy to do a quick video recording of the dream you’d like to share. Or, you may do your own recording on your cell phone or other device. Please keep your answers to 20 seconds or so.

Alternatively, share your dream in a single written sentence. Please use the provided email for sharing your dreams in either format. If you have any questions, please contact me, Valerie M at valerie@vmwishes.com. Thank you!

This service features beautiful special music, Holy Communion, and candlelight.

Christmas Day | December 25th (pre-recorded on YouTube)

This service follows a lessons and carols format, and will include recorded choir pieces and favorite carols. We invite you to use this service to worship at the time best suited to you.

First Sunday of Christmas |December 26th at 9:30am (in-person and online)

This service will follow our typical format, and will include the lesser considered part of Jesus’ birth story: The Massacre of the Holy Innocents.

Gifts of Hope Catalog Available Online
Operating for 28 years, Gifts of Hope has raised and disbursed almost $4 million to two church camps, four ministries, three international companion synods, and ten local social service agencies affiliated with the Synod. These funds have helped the homeless, the hungry, the young, the elderly, immigrants, refugees, jobseekers, seminary and college students, and those seeking to improve their lives.
Instead of visiting tables in church buildings in November and December, individuals can support GOH through the current catalog on the Gifts of Hope website: www.giftsofhopedc.org or by mail (an order form is included in the catalog). Gifts of Hope wanted to continue to honor the health of the volunteers and donors, even if congregations return to on-site worship this year.

Trinity “Adopts” a Family for the Holidays.
Trinity has been matched with a family of 5. Each family member has provided some wishes that members of Trinity helped fulfill. Sunday is the deadline to bring your unwrapped gifts and gift receipts to Trinity. At 3:00pm on Monday, December 13, Gift Wrapping will take place in the Social Hall. If you would like to help with wrapping, or have any questions, please contact Margaret F at gmfitzwm85@gmail.com.

Afghan Refugees (LSS): Lutheran Social Services (LSS) is reaching out with immediate needs due to the influx of Afghan refugees arriving in this area. They are in need of drivers, storage space, rooms on a temporary basis, and housing settlement. Contact: https://bit.ly/3z6u2Xj
