Trinity Tidings August 20, 2020

From Pastor Kern

Dear People of God,
The new Council met for the first time this week and, as usual, the agenda was packed.  Even though we don’t gather in person yet, the work of the church goes on and on.  Members of the Council have participated in two orientation sessions, going over the constitution and their duties, as well as taking the time to get to know one another better.  It was a long meeting, a lot got done, and the time flew by (at least for me).  You can feel very good about your leadership team.
One of the items that was discussed in that meeting was beginning to offer an outdoor, parking lot, service beginning on Sunday, September 6 at 6 pm.  The thought is to try this for a month and evaluate it then.  You can still look forward to receiving the videoed Sunday worship in your inbox at each Saturday.  The outdoor service is still a work in progress, but will likely be a simplified Service of the Word – no singing, no passing the peace, maintaining social distance, wearing masks – and the building will remain off-limits.  For the service you may choose between sitting in chairs that you bring, OR remaining in your car and listening on your radio!  That’s right.  Anita has procured an FM transmitter for us that we are trying out that will allow you to hear the service in your car on your FM radio.
Participation will still be limited to the Montgomery County regulation of 50 people, so we are looking at an online signup sheet that will be first-come, first-served.  Stay tuned for more details about this and other news as Trinity moves forward in this pandemic time.

We will be continuing to post our Sunday Worship videos on Saturday afternoons. Check your email box, and/or subscribe to our YouTube Channel.

Last week’s video can be found HERE.

Christmas in July Chrismon Kits
If you did not have an opportunity to pick up a kit or two at the congregational meeting on July 25, you can ask to have them set aside for you in the church office. These are simple beaded shapes or wooden shapes to paint; we will hang them on the Social Hall Christmas tree this December. Email the church office with your interest, and we will get a kits to you.

Adult Forum on Zoom
David K will continue a study on the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:1 – 7:29) for the next few Sundays at 9:30 am.

“The Sermon on the Mount brings together a lot of Jesus’ moral and ethical teachings in one place and I’ve never spent more than a session on it as part of a larger study of the book of Matthew.  So what I’m planning is a deeper dive into the part of Jesus’ teaching that makes us squirm and explore what it’s saying to us today.”

Social Ministry Updates

This Saturday, August 22, Trinity will be hosting a Drive Thru Food Drive to benefit the food pantry at Living Faith Lutheran Church from 9 AM – 12 noon. For a complete list of things we are collecting, please look at this link HERE.

Trinity is working to assemble a list of our Thrivent members.  Thrivent members are entitled to apply for a $250 Thrivent Action Grant twice a year, associate members are entitled to one.  Trinity has received these grants through some of our Trinity Thrivent members to help fund projects such as Lutheran World Relief school kits, personal hygiene kits, and other Social Ministry and Youth Ministry projects.  These grants are used for a wide range of programs and projects by Thrivent members across the country.  This website will give you a sample of the projects that received Thrivent Action Grants.
To help Trinity make use of these grants, we need to know who our Trinity Thrivent members are.  Please notify the Trinity office if you are a Thrivent member so Carol can add you to the list.  Anita S and Valerie M are familiar with the process for applying for and using the grants, and would be glad to answer any questions you might have.  Valerie will be holding an online information session about Thrivent Action Grants in the future.  This is a resource Trinity should be using when possible.

Thank you for your offering. Your gifts make the ministry of Trinity possible. Electronic giving may be available through your bank or financial institution. Offerings mailed to the church office will be promptly deposited.
