Trinity Tidings | December 16, 2021

Cradle and cross are inextricably connected on the fourth Sunday of Advent. Between a lovely tribute to the little town of Bethlehem and Mary’s magnificent song of praise, the letter to the Hebrews reminds us in no uncertain terms that Christ’s advent is for “the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” It is the kind of tension in which the church always lives as when in holy communion—with high delight—”we proclaim the Lord’s death.”

Gifts of Hope Catalog Available Online
Operating for 28 years, Gifts of Hope has raised and disbursed almost $4 million to two church camps, four ministries, three international companion synods, and ten local social service agencies affiliated with the Synod. These funds have helped the homeless, the hungry, the young, the elderly, immigrants, refugees, jobseekers, seminary and college students, and those seeking to improve their lives.
Instead of visiting tables in church buildings in November and December, individuals can support GOH through the current catalog on the Gifts of Hope website: or by mail (an order form is included in the catalog). Gifts of Hope wanted to continue to honor the health of the volunteers and donors, even if congregations return to on-site worship this year.

Afghan Refugees (LSS): Lutheran Social Services (LSS) is reaching out with immediate needs due to the influx of Afghan refugees arriving in this area. They are in need of drivers, storage space, rooms on a temporary basis, and housing settlement. Contact:
