From Pastor Kern
Dear People of Trinity,
I have been privileged in my life to attend 4 graduations – high school, college, seminary, graduate school. And, I’ve always been able to attend my commencement ceremonies. Funny that we call them commencements, because families and graduates usually think of those moments as endings – we have finished something that we started. But, we don’t call them conclusions – we call them commencements. And I suppose we do that because in this life, it always takes an ending before there can be a new beginning.
This Advent, Trinity and I are fast approaching our own commencement day. Our season of transition that we have shared is coming to an end. But it is not the end for either of us. A month after I leave, you will welcome your new pastor, and what a new beginning that will be for you both! For my part, I will move on to the next chapter in my life and like you, I am full of anticipation.
Please, for the sake of yourselves and the world, do everything you possibly can to not become a victim of the pandemic this Advent season. Pray for victims and all of the front line workers who will care for them. Remember those who have died and their families and friends who grieve them. And then, remember to give thanks for the good and grace in your lives. Give thanks for your congregation. And pray every day for your new pastor.
Advent reminds us every year that in the middle of our lives of struggle, pain, and suffering God still chooses to send good news of great joy. Try to receive this blessing on behalf of the suffering in this world and pray God will soon bring healing and peace to all people.
Trinity Special Congregation Meeting
By now, most members should have received in the mail the Zoom invitation to attend a special congregational meeting on December 13 at 2pm to call a new pastor, preceded by a Zoom Meet and Greet at 1pm to meet the candidate, after viewing the pastor leading a recorded service that morning. The service will be posted on our YouTube channel on December 13, at 8 am. You will also receive this link in your email. Please contact the church office if you have not received the letter by this Friday, and another will be sent to you electronically. Please note: Because the candidate is currently the rostered pastor at another ELCA church, we are not able to provide the candidate’s name at this time. Any questions–please contact Sarah M, President of the Congregation.
Trinity’s monthly newsletter, The Trinitarian, has been published. You can find it HERE.
Parking Lot Services with Communion
Each Sunday in December at 4pm (except December 13), we will holding a LIVE Communion service in the parking lot. Bring a mask and a lounge chair from home or sit in your car (we hope to have our new AM transmitter up and running this week, especially as the weather gets colder). Due to restrictions, only 50 people will be able to participate. In case of rain, the service will be cancelled.
We will be collecting Reverse Advent Calendar food donations for Living Faith Lutheran Church’s food pantry, alongside the offering plate. The items will be gathered and added to the next Food Drive delivery on December 19. This is the last Sunday we will be collecting new unwrapped toys for children infant to age 18 for Community Family Life Services Annual Give-a-Gift program. Bring your toy purchases to this Sunday’s afternoon church service or drop them off at the church office Friday morning. New this year, Trinity is adopting a family through A Wider Circle (see below). Bring your labeled unwrapped gifts this Sunday, or drop them at the church office Monday, Wednesday, or Friday morning.
Please use the link HERE to indicate you will be attending Trinity’s parking lot worship Sunday the 6th. When replying, count all members of your household who will be attending (no need for members to reply individually). If you prefer to RSVP by email or phone, please contact the office at Trinity (firstname.lastname@example.org or 301-881-7275).
[Please note: an RSVP ensures that we have prepared enough space for social distancing, as well as a preliminary count for Communion supplies and a means to reach you if services are cancelled.]
Volunteers Needed: Parking Lot Services run smoother when we have volunteers willing to help with Reader/Prayer Leader, Usher, Entrance Greeter, or Equipment Setup duties one or more Sundays in November/December. Signup link is HERE or contact the office as above to reserve your spot. Thank you!
Watch, Wait, Wonder, Worship
Wednesdays in Advent, 7 pm
During this season of Advent, we invite you to join us for a live, Zoom midweek worship each Wednesday – December 9, 16, 23 – at 7 pm. Our theme will be shared by many congregations across the ELCA, reminding us that even in this time of pandemic we remain a connected church. These are quiet, meditative services with intentional spaces of silence, readings, and song. To facilitate your participation, we invite you to save this Zoom link (it will be the same for each Wednesday) and to print or download the pages which will serve as your worship folder each week. With the Church of every time and place we pray, Come, Lord Jesus.

Make this discipline work as you need; there are suggestions in the upcoming Trinitarian. If you have any questions, please contact Valerie M at firstname.lastname@example.org Thank you for supporting the pantry.
2021 Stewardship Campaign is Underway
A series of letters and a pledge card have been sent to members and longtime friends of the congregation. Please consider prayerfully your blessings in the past year, and make a commitment to supporting Trinity’s mission in 2021. Please contact the church office (email@example.com) if you did not receive one, and it will be mailed to you. Please return your completed card, either at Sunday Parking Lot Services, by mail, to the secure mailbox at the office entrance, or emailed to Carol B, Financial Secretary (firstname.lastname@example.org).
