Shrove Tuesday – Pancakes!

February 25, 6:00 p.m.
Bring your family and friends to Trinity’s annual “Fat Tuesday” dinner of pancakes, sausage, and stewed apples. It is our last meal of abundance before the fasting of Lent which begins on Ash Wednesday. Leave full and ready to take up the cross as our Lenten journey begins.
Reservations are not required, but we need a general idea of how many to expect. Sign up by using the form below and placing it in the offering plate or on the sheets posted in the Social Hall. A Free-will offering to cover costs will be collected at the supper.

Ash Wednesday is Next Wednesday

Ash Wednesday services are at 12 noon & 7:30 pm on February 26. Both services will have the Imposition of Ashes and Holy Communion.

From Pastor Kern

Dear People of Trinity,
On Sunday, the Advent/Christmas/Epiphany cycle of the church year comes to an end with the Festival of the Transfiguration.  The gospel for the day is loaded with imagery, theology, history, and, believe it or not, practicality.
Practicality (from the same root as the word ‘practice’) plays a big role in the life of the church and the life of a congregation.  Here at Trinity, in some seasons  we commune with homemade bread.  A congregation in Minnesota communes couple thousand people on Sunday.  Can you imagine the pile of bread loaves that would take?  Communion wafers are practical.  Altar candles once served a practical purpose – to provide light in a space that had no electricity.  Modern congregations try, for the most part, to schedule worship when people are most likely to attend, as a matter of practicality.
The story of Transfiguration is full of wonder and mystery, but it ends in practicality when Jesus directs the disciples back down the mountain, where Lent begins three days later.

Adult Forum: How do we discover the main thing that God is asking of us at this time and in this place?  What actions do we need to be taking – both now and in the future – to ensure that we are working towards that main thing? Led by David K, we will look at these and other provocative questions as Trinity prepares for the Pastoral call process. Join the conversation Sundays at 9:30am in Room 10. All are welcome.

Pretzel Sunday and Goodbye to Alleluia: We will be Celebrating Transfiguration during Sunday School, February 24, to say Goodbye to Alleluia and making pretzels and crafts as we prepare for the Lenten season to come. Join us at 9:30 in the Social Hall!

Sunday School: We are in need of more substitute Sunday School Teachers. If you are interested in helping out, please let Anita know.

Lenten Resources
Come check out the Lenten resources table in the fellowship hall. There are a variety of prayer practices and devotionals for you to choose from and for all ages. Come and see the options. These are in the spirit of adding for Lent instead of giving up something. Come try something new.

Social Ministry February Food Drive

This is the last week we will be collecting food.
During February, Trinity will be collecting specific foods to support the efforts of Bethesda Help, a local all-volunteer non-profit organization providing emergency assistance to needy persons of southern Montgomery County. Bethesda Help provides each household with a three-day supply of food for each member of the household. Each delivery includes:
1 Can of Meat (Chicken) 12.5 oz
2 Cans of Tuna 5 oz (usually packed in water)
3 Cans of Vegetables
2 cans of beans 15.5 oz
1 can of fruit
1 box of oatmeal or cereal
1 jar of peanut butter 18 oz
1 box of pasta 16 oz
1 can of pasta/spaghetti sauce 24 oz
1 bag of rice 16 oz
2 boxes of macaroni and cheese 7.25 oz
