From Pastor Christine
By the time you read this, Ash Wednesday will have passed, and you may have had the opportunity to participate in Trinity’s virtual communion experience. I know this type of communion experience is different, new, and likely raises good emotional and theological questions for you. I’d love to have the opportunity to talk with you about how it went for you at home: to hear both the benefits and drawbacks of such an experience. I will be answering questions and hearing our experiences during the first 20 minutes of Adult Forum on February 21st. Adult Forum begins at 9:30am. If you haven’t participated in the past and need the link for the gathering, please contact David K or the office to receive the link.
In this season of Lent (and this long pandemic season), rituals help us remember that which is familiar to us, and they help inform our present reality, so that we are transformed. Therefore, I’d also like to encourage you to take some time this week to set up a special place for your in-home communion experience (if you haven’t already done so). This practice can become a beautiful ritual. Please make this space yours! Use a table cloth that’s special (maybe your grandmother embroidered it); light a fragrant candle; set a bowl or water and/or a cross in the middle; bake bread and use good wine. There are many ways to set the Lord’s Table. If you’re willing to share a photo of your mini altar, please email me a picture (and indicate if you’re willing for it to be shared on Trinity’s Facebook or Instagram). This is a great way for us to feel connected, despite our physical distancing.
Get to know Pastor Christine!
In an effort to meet members of Trinity, Pastor Christine has set up a signup genius form. If you are interested in a one-on-one meeting with her to share a bit about yourself and get to know her, please select a slot, or call the office to set up a meeting time. The meetings will take place over zoom or via phone (your preference). More times and slots will be added. Once you sign up, she will contact you with zoom details, if desired.
With Pastor Christine’s arrival we have updated some of our email accounts and practices. Please use the following email address:
Join us for worship this Sunday!
On Ash Wednesday the church began its journey toward baptismal immersion in the death and resurrection of Christ. This year, the Sundays in Lent lead us to focus on five covenants God makes in the Hebrew Scriptures and to use them as lenses through which to view baptism. First Peter connects the way God saved Noah’s family in the flood with the way God saves us through the water of baptism. The baptismal covenant is made with us individually, but the new life we are given in baptism is for the sake of the whole world.

Readings for the First Sunday in Lent
1 Peter 3:18-22
Pastor Christine will be hosting a Q & A session on Virtual Communion at the beginning of the Adult Forum this Sunday at 9:30am. Afterward David K will continue a series of study this Sunday on the book of John. Please contact David to be added to the Zoom invitation email, or contact the church office.
Faith Formation videos & resources are published on Saturdays, and will be emailed with the service.
February is Hunger Month
Sadly, our usual Fellowship and Fund Raising activities supporting hunger, Cook-Off and Souper Bowl voting, are not to be this February. We request instead that Trinity members make a cash/check donation to support providing perishable items to Living Faith Food Pantry, something we cannot provide in our monthly food drives. Simply include the amount, made out to Trinity, with your February offerings noting “LF Perishable Foods” on your offering envelopes.
Food Drive for Living Faith Food Pantry THIS Saturday
The demand for food assistance remains very high at the Living Faith pantry in Rockville. Every week the volunteers at Living Faith assemble bags for 75 families including perishable and non-perishable food items. Please help Trinity continue its active support of Living Faith’s pantry during these difficult economic times.
Date: Saturday, February 20, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Where: Trinity Lutheran Church, 11200 Old Georgetown Rd. (main parking lot)
More information, including the current foods needed and how to have food picked up, is HERE.

Lenten Soup Swap
While the pandemic precludes us from coming together on Wednesday nights to share Soup & Bread dinners, Trinity is trying a Lenten Soup Swap. Here is how it will work:
Each week in Lent that you are interested in participating you will be paired with another member of Trinity.
Pairs will rotate weekly. Each pair will share any food restrictions and coordinate how to drop off/deliver 1 quart of soup to each other. You may also opt to include bread you enjoy. If you are interested, please email Margaret F at email@example.com by February 14 with the following:
– Which week(s) you are interested in participating:
(2/24, 3/3, 3/10, 3/17, 3/24)
– Best contact email or phone number to reach you
We will distribute a schedule by 2/18 to all participants.
Thank you for your offerings. At present, we support donations through PayPal. We are currently exploring our options to provide you multiple options for online giving. See details HERE.
