From Thomas Kern: Registration for the Montgomery Interfaith 5K is LIVE

On behalf of Trinity, I am honored to join the Board of the Montgomery Interfaith 5K, an annual event that takes place on Labor Day at the Maryland Soccerplex in Gaithersburg. Our own Pastor Christine is race director and Trinity is proud to join several faith communities in the county to host this race, now in its fifth year. I hope you join me in participating on Team Trinity. Here are five reasons (one for each “K”) to be a part!

First, to quote the website, “Despite what we see in the news, people of different faiths get along with one another and cooperate wonderfully.” This is something we can all support! Second, proceeds from the race go to several worthy causes in our area. Check out for details. Third, our health and well being should be important to our family, friends, and, of course, to ourselves. Whether you run, jog, or walk, the three miles that five kilometers amounts to is doable, depending on your fitness level and how you tackle it. So for starters, walking the course will take an hour or less.  What better way to start a morning in early September! Fourth, we, as Team Trinity, can do this together!  What a great image, groups of us running, jogging, or walking alongside one another, chatting, singing, praying, solving the problems of the world, you name it. Fifth, our faith journey has united us with Pastor Christine Dunn whose emerging ministry at Trinity includes a spiritual and practical commitment to the importance of the interfaith community. We share this with Pastor Christine and with the Interfaith 5K, we have a simple, practical way to embody it with good people from other faiths in our own backyard.

Sign up for the race now (the big red REGISTER HERE on the Interfaith 5K Homepage– Montgomery County Interfaith 5K ( and when prompted, identify Trinity Lutheran Church as your team. You don’t need to be a runner! All that is necessary is that you care about Trinity and those with whom we share our neighborhoods.  And yes, there is a goal! Let’s make the inaugural Team Trinity a huge success by having at least 25 of us participate. And if you don’t want to run/jog/walk in the 5K, but would like to help on race day, let me know. Kids are welcome! Thank you!  Look to the Trinity Tidings each week for more information on our new journey! Tom (

Join us for Worship this Sunday!

A woman finds healing by touching Jesus’ cloak, and a girl is restored to life when he takes her by the hand. In both cases a boundary is crossed: in Jesus’ time the hemorrhaging woman was considered ritually unclean, polluting others by her touch, and anyone who touched a corpse also became unclean. In Mark’s gospel Jesus breaks down barriers, from his first meal at a tax collector’s house to his last breath on the cross as the temple curtain is torn in two. We dare to touch Jesus in our “uncleanness” and to live as a community that defines no one as an outsider.

Worship Updates

Come to LIVE Communion worship in the parking lot on Sundays at 10am (signup is necessary HERE or through the church office). We will still offer our YouTube recorded service, which will include: music, full sermon, children’s message, and Holy Communion in extraordinary circumstances. We hope to continue this plan through the summer, with the hopes of implementing live-stream capabilities, so that we can have indoor worship services when it is safe to do so.
**We’ve made some adjustments to worship practices: If you are vaccinated, you no longer need to wear a mask while seated in your worship space. Please be hospitable and respectful of one another, asking if they would prefer talking masked or unmasked. This is just our first next step. There will be many steps in the coming months.

Virtual Services, along with Music Meditations and Faith Formation videos, are broadcast on YouTube each week at

We Have Met Our Goal!

Thanks to all who have contributed to the Livestreaming Wish List. We have more than met our goal of $1,695 to add a switcher, which will improve the reliability of the system, and an instrument microphone, which will capture the full sound of the organ. Thank you Trinity!

Worship Assistants Needed!

In order for our services each Sunday to run smoothly, we need your help! Please contact the church office or sign up HERE to be Parking Lot Greeter (to direct cars and to give handouts), Communion Distributor, or Lector/Prayer Leader.

Bigger Than A Building 2! (BTAB 2!): Be sure to fulfill your pledge!

Trinity is now on the last lap of our fourth and final mission appeal, BIGGER Than a Building 2! (BTAB 2!) to pay for all the improvements we made to our building in 2011. We have made huge progress on paying down our loans, but we need your help. We need for everyone who has pledged to BTAB 2! to fulfill their pledge by the end of 2021, so that we can start 2022 with the mortgage paid off in full.

Thank you to everyone who has kept committed to meeting their pledges and to those who have given to BTAB 2! even though they didn’t pledge.  If you’d like to know your current giving relative to your BTAB 2 goal, you’ll be receiving a 2nd quarter statement of giving after June 30th which will show your pledge progress. Or, you can contact our Financial Secretary, Carol Bruno, by emailing her at and she’d be happy to let you know.

If you haven’t pledged or donated, but you’re feeling grateful for all the improvements we’ve been blessed with, then prayerfully consider making a donation, in whatever amount you feel moved to make, to help eliminate our debt. Please make your check to Trinity Lutheran Church and designate BTAB 2! on your check and envelope. If you don’t have envelopes, please indicate that your check is for BTAB 2!  You can also give online by going to and clicking on the “Donate” button. Once on the donation page, be sure to note in the optional “Use this donation for” section that your donation is for “Bigger Than a Building” by selecting it from the dropdown menu.

We’re now in the homestretch of paying off our loans. We hope to be debt free by December 31, 2021. With your help, we can do this!

In Christ,
Jim K and Miriam M
