From Pastor Kern
Dear Trinity Family,
Just imagine when this is over. Can you picture it? Church will be open, we will greet one another – maybe even hug! – and sing and pray and receive communion. And our children will greet their friends in Sunday School. After church, we will go out for brunch, maybe go to the park, and visit with our friends. Won’t that be wonderful?
It’s important to remember, people of God, that we will get through this. Life will be good again. I don’t say this to diminish the threat – covid-19 is real! Pay attention to the warnings and take every, single precaution you can. But also allow hope to pull you through.
Here in the middle of Lent, we look to Jesus and see this very tension played out in his life. As he moves inexorably toward the cross, he is quite frank with his disciples about what is coming. But he also assures them that ultimately all will be well. It may be Lent, but Easter’s coming. Imagine that! Hold on to that. Hope in that faith.
No one knows how long this crisis will last. I have a strong hunch, though, that it is going to be a long while until we see one another again. In the meantime, Anita, Angela, Carol, and I are going to do as much as we can for as long as it is safe to do so, to bring you daily messages, weekly videos, and a weekly worship video. Please feel free to reach out to any of us at any time. The Church Council is meeting regularly online to monitor church life. And know this – my inbox is full of news from congregations and denominations all across America who are doing the same things we are. We are all in this together. If you need to speak to me for whatever reason, use my personal cell: 407-427-4846. You can call or text. If I don’t pick up right away, leave me a voice mail and I’ll call you back.
It looks like we’re racing toward the peak of this pandemic. Do all you can to keep you and your family safe. And don’t forget – Easter’s coming. Life will be good again. Just imagine that!
During this time of social distancing, we will be recording a service on YouTube, and posting it on Saturday evening. We hope that this gives you a moment of prayer and peace in this strange time.
READINGS AND PSALM
1 Samuel 16:1-13
We will be emailing devotions and resources for Sunday School at home throughout the week. Anita will be recording Time for ALL Kids, and sending that out every Friday.
Yesterday, we sent out 4 reflections on the Psalms by David K. The link for the reflection is HERE.
Here is a great resource for Sunday School at home. Illustrated Ministry has promised that they will only email you things through this time of social distancing, and won’t add you to their main email list.
A group of youth leaders came together and wrote this daily devotion for families. This resource can be found HERE.
Ministry Site Profile Discussion
This Sunday at 9:30am, the Council will attempt to continue its discussion of Trinity’s Ministry Site Profile (MSP). Since we can’t be together physically, we will do this virtually. You may join the discussion via phone or via the web. There will be a version of the MSP content on the screen for those who connect via the web.
Please connect at 9:15am in case you run into technical glitches. If you’d like to do a test run with Sarah G before Sunday please let her know. Sarah’s contact info is in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) below.
Here are the details for Sunday’s discussion:

Q: Do I need to sign up for a Zoom account to participate?
A: You do not!
Q: What if I want to say something during the discussion?
A: If you “raise your hand” the host (Sarah G) will see it and call on you.
Q: How do I raise my hand to say something?
A: To raise your hand if you are participating via phone only, press *9. To raise your hand, via the web, look for “Raise Hand” on the participant control bar. You may have to click the three little dots on the far right to see the “Raise Hand” option.
Q: How do I mute my connection?
A: All participants will be muted upon entry to reduce connection noise/echo. At around 9:30am she will do a bit of a roll call and unmute individual lines so folks can say hello to the group!
Q: I’d like to get this setup ahead of time. Who can help me?
A: Sarah G can! Please reach out to her at 703-870-8149 or email@example.com.
Q: What if I get dropped or something goes wrong?
A: Please try to connect again! And please be patient as we work out the kinks of this new normal. Thanks!
Interfaith Works Women’s Shelter Dinner – Sunday, April 5th
We are scheduled to take and serve dinner to the women at the shelter in Rockville. If we actually serve dinner is still up in the air, but we will at least drop off the dinner. Those who have signed up to cook and/or serve will receive an email by March 22. At this writing, there is still one slot available for the Asian Pulled Chicken, the recipe will be provided.
The Social Ministry Committee is resurrecting Trinity Help. Trinity Help is the ministry of providing care for those who call Trinity their faith home. We are looking for people who would be willing to provide meals, and/or in our current time of social distancing, make grocery runs for essentials. If you are interested in helping out with this ministry, please email Valerie M. For more details, please see the article in the forthcoming April Trinitarian.
