Trinity Tidings May 7, 2020

From Pastor Kern

Dear Trinity Family,
Who do you believe?  What do you believe?
In the creeds of the church we confess what “I” and “We” believe, depending on which creed we’re reciting. ( Whether you realize it or not, you probably know the Apostle’s and Nicene creeds by heart.)  In these brief statements we share summations of our Christian belief systems.  And yet….
I know church people who aren’t so sure about resurrection and others skeptical about the birth narrative of Jesus. There is disagreement to this day between various Christian traditions about the relationship within the Trinity.  And large swaths of Christianity have no use for the creeds at all.  Some blame the enlightenment, the renaissance, and modern science for sowing seeds of doubt.  And yet…
Here in the 20th century, we find ourselves disputing the believability of science.  Rising sea levels?  That’s not climate change, it’s just normal.  Clean water regulation? What’s more important, clean water or corporate profits?  Death by pandemic? That’s just the deep state trying to scare the population.  And yet…
The moral arc of the universe not only bends toward justice, it bends toward truth.  One way or another, and sometimes at great human cost, the truth prevails.  We don’t have to accept it.  We don’t have to believe it.  But that doesn’t change the truth.  What do you believe? Who do you believe?
+ I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.  +I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord.  +I believe in the Holy Spirit.
Pr Kern

The Stories of Our Lives–A Zoom Meeting with Pastor Kern
Join me via the Zoom link below on Wednesdays, at 7 pm for an examination of the stories of our lives.  As we listen and speak to one another, we’ll be fascinated by what we hear, laugh out loud, and maybe even cry a little.  And through it all, we will see God.

Handbell Choir Concert Update
After 30 consecutive years of presenting our handbell concert combined with the handbell choir from Holy Trinity in Laurel, we are sad to say that we have had to cancel our scheduled May 16 concert this year, due to the COVID-19.  We will keep you updated as to whether we will reschedule for the fall or if we’ll need to wait until next spring.  We greatly appreciate your support of our Heavenly Handbells choir both during the worship services and our concerts and we hope to be back in the swing (ring) of things in the near future.

Thank you for your offering. Your gifts make the ministry of Trinity possible. Electronic giving may be available through your bank or financial institution. Offerings mailed to the church office will be promptly deposited.
