Trinity Tidings October 1, 2020

From Pastor Kern

Before I Go
On Tuesdays October 6, 13, and 27 at 7pm, I will facilitate conversation and reflections on the book, Who Do We Choose to Be?, by Margaret J Wheatley.  Ms. Wheatley has been at the forefront of the changing dynamics of organization and leadership in our world.  Drawing on her work with business, industry, and the American military she offers a wealth of insights to help us through the confounding time in which we find ourselves.  Participants will want to order the book and begin reading ahead of time.
Before I Go refers to the closing season of my work at Trinity and this class is one of a few offerings I would like to make before I leave.  I found the book to be full of insight and ultimately, hope.  And yes, we are skipping the third Tuesday of the month since that is the Council’s meeting night. And don’t forget Valerie M’s film series on racism during October and David K’s weekly Adult Forum Bible study on Sunday mornings.
Here’s the link.  Remember, there is NO CLASS on 10/20, and please note—the Start Time is 7 pm each session.

Parking Lot Service

Starting this Sunday October 4th at 4pm, we will holding a LIVE Communion service in the parking lot. Bring a mask and a lounge chair from home or sit in your car. We will also be celebrating the Blessing of the Animals in honor of St. Francis of Assisi during the service. Bring your dogs, cats, reptiles, hedgehogs, and other pets to be blessed. Due to restrictions, only 150 people will be able to participate. In case of rain, the service will be cancelled.
We will be collecting food donations for Living Faith Lutheran Church’s food pantry, alongside the offering plate. The items will be gathered and added to the next Food Drive delivery on October 17.

Please use the link HERE to indicate you will be attending Trinity’s parking lot worship Sunday the 4th. When replying, count all members of your household who will be attending (no need for members to reply individually). An account is not required but is free and only needs an email and password. Should you have any questions about Sign-Up Genius, please contact Valerie M ( If you prefer to RSVP by email or phone, please contact the office at Trinity ( or 301-881-7275). [Please note: an RSVP ensures that we have prepared enough space for social distancing, as well as a preliminary count for Communion supplies.]
Volunteers Needed: Parking Lot Services run smoother when we have volunteers willing to help with Reader/Prayer Leader, Usher, Entrance Greeter, or Equipment Setup duties one or more Sundays in October. Signup link is HERE or contact the office as above to reserve your spot. Thank you!

Adult Forum on Zoom
David K will continue a study on the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:1 – 7:29) for the next few Sundays at 9:30 am.  Please email David for the Zoom link.

“The Sermon on the Mount brings together a lot of Jesus’ moral and ethical teachings in one place and I’ve never spent more than a session on it as part of a larger study of the book of Matthew.  So what I’m planning is a deeper dive into the part of Jesus’ teaching that makes us squirm and explore what it’s saying to us today.”

Quilts for Lutheran World Relief
Plans are in the works for a small group at Trinity to make quilts to help people displaced by wildfires, floods, and hurricanes this year. A Thrivent grant is covering the cost of batting, but NEW TWIN FLAT cotton (NO MICROFIBER) sheets are needed, 30 in all, to make 15 quilts. If you would like to help out, please click on the link below and sign up to donate sheets. You can drop off your donation during our Parking Lot Church services, or use the address in the link below if you would like to buy them online and have them shipped. Additional information is provided in the link.
Thank you for supporting this effort.

Thank you for your offering. Your gifts make the ministry of Trinity possible. Electronic giving may be available through your bank or financial institution. Offerings mailed to the church office will be promptly deposited.
