Trinity Tidings Sept. 24, 2020

From Pastor Kern

Dear People of God,
As I look out over the landscape of our world today, I wonder, are we going to be OK?
I remember telling my son, after the crash of 2008-2009, that everything I told him while he was growing up about what a great benefit it is to own a home, was clearly not the case anymore for everyone.
Likewise, so much of what I was brought up to believe was true about America as a child, seems today to be full of holes – we can’t even agree that science is real.
And yes, the church in the world has not exactly lived up to the ideals of its founder, either.
So, are we going to be OK?
I think the answer is, Yes.  Our God seems to have a penchant for restoring life and making new.  And believe that includes the church, our country, our economy – the whole world.  Because that is what God does.
I’m betting my life on it.
Pr Kern

Parking Lot Service

Continuing this Sunday the 27th, we will holding a LIVE Communion service at 6pm in the parking lot. Bring a mask and a lounge chair from home or sit in your car. Due to restrictions, only 50 people will be able to participate. In case of rain, the service will be cancelled.
NOTE: Starting October 4th, the service time will change to 4pm.
Starting this week at the service, we will be collecting food donations for Living Faith Lutheran Church’s food pantry, alongside the offering plate. The items will be gathered and added to the next Food Drive delivery on October 17.
Please use the link HERE to indicate you will be attending Trinity’s parking lot worship Sunday the 27th. When replying, count all members of your household who will be attending (no need for members to reply individually). An account is not required but is free and only needs an email and password. Should you have any questions about Sign-Up Genius, please contact Valerie M (valerie@vmwishes.com).
If you prefer to RSVP by email or phone, please contact the office at Trinity (office@trinityelca.org or 301-881-7275). [Please note: an RVSP ensures that we have prepared enough space for social distancing, as well as a preliminary count for Communion supplies.]
Volunteers Needed: Parking Lot Services run smoother when we have volunteers willing to help with setup, watching entrances, and ensuring social distancing of attendees. Please consider signing up for Usher, Entrance Greeter, or Equipment Setup duties one or more Sundays in October. Signup link is HERE or contact the office as above to reserve your spot. Thank you!
Virtual services, Faith Formation resources, and musical meditations will continue to be posted on Trinity’s YouTube channel each week: https://bit.ly/3eHOnsK (and subscribe!)

Trinity will be continuing to post videos for worship at home. The link to last week’s service is HERE.

Adult Forum on Zoom
David K will continue a study on the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:1 – 7:29) for the next few Sundays at 9:30 am.  Please email David for the Zoom link.

“The Sermon on the Mount brings together a lot of Jesus’ moral and ethical teachings in one place and I’ve never spent more than a session on it as part of a larger study of the book of Matthew.  So what I’m planning is a deeper dive into the part of Jesus’ teaching that makes us squirm and explore what it’s saying to us today.”
