Today we hear James warn against selfish ambition, while the disciples quarrel over which one of them is the greatest. Jesus tells them the way to be great is to serve. Then, to make it concrete, he puts in front of them a flesh-and-blood child. We are called to welcome the children God puts in front of us, to make room for them in daily interaction, and to give them a place of honor in the assembly.

Readings for this Sunday
Isaiah 50:4-9a
Psalm 116:1-9
James 3:1-12
Mark 8:27-38

Music Leaders/Cantors:

Sunday School: Sunday School will look a bit different. After Worship (10:30 AM, Sundays), we will be meeting in the Playground for a song, story time, and a short activity. We will be meeting outside through the month of October. We will reassess the location during the month of October, and Sunday School will continue after October. Would you like to help lead Sunday School? Contact:

Stephen Ministry: Stephen Ministry is a lay ministry in which the Stephen Minister  is trained to care for someone on a one-to-one basis and meets with that person once a week, on average, for as long as the person needs care. Would you like to train to become a Stephen Minister and walk with another Christian who is going through a difficult time in their life? The course takes 50 hours to complete and meets twice a month. First meeting is September 24th

Please contact me if you are willing to help out. Thank

Thanks to all who donated and helped put together packs last Sunday! Not only did we reach our goal, but we had leftovers!

Scam Alert
Area congregations are being targeted as a part of a fraud effort. Emails are circulating that seem to be either from Pastor Christine, or from someone who claims to have talked to Pastor Christine. Do NOT send money, gift cards, or even respond to the emails. They are very cunning in their attempts. Pastor Christine will never ask you for money or gift cards via email. If in doubt, please open a separate email and contact her directly or call the office. You can ‘inspect’ email addresses. Often upon doing this, you’ll note that it is not the same address that Trinity uses or Pastor Christine uses.

Our Director of Youth and Family Ministries, Anita S. will be on Sabbatical October 13- November 23
From Anita: Now that Trinity has a new pastor, a new admin, & live streaming is up and running, I have been granted mini sabbatical, which incorporates vacation time not used due to the pandemic. I will be out of the office for 40 days, October 13 – November 22.  I will not be looking at email, nor returning phone calls or texts until I return. The ELCA recognizes that ministers are strengthened by opportunities to step away from the daily obligations of parish life, and have a moment of renewal. I will be using this time to recharge, so I am able to service Trinity to the fullest of my capabilities. During my absence, contact Pastor Christine, Amanda, or Jerry B.

Special Adult Forum – The Humble Walk | September 19 | 10:45 am | In-Person Only,
Scheduling issues are preventing us from streaming to Zoom.
To bookend our discussions about welcoming the stranger and refugees from Central America, you are invited to come hear about the week-long immersion program that The Humble Walk (UMD campus ministry) students participated in over the summer. The students will join us for worship and then we will transition to a live conversation with them, in the sanctuary. We will also be taking a special collection that Sunday to support the work of Iglesia Luterana Cristo Rey, the congregation who leads the immersion program and works with the refugees. If you will not be attending in person, please consider giving electronically or with your mailed in offering. The experience was powerful. Come, welcome them and hear their stories.
