New Orleans Relief
Given the devastation that New Orleans has recently endured from Hurricane Ida, this weekend we will be receiving special offerings again this weekend. We will be receiving special offerings to help offer relief to that area. You may bring checks (labeled New Orleans) or cash (in an envelope labeled New Orleans) and Trinity will ensure it goes to relief efforts in the area. You may also give directly online through Lutheran Disaster Response.
Thanks to all who came out for the Interfaith 5K! We appreciate you!!
September Trinitarian Now Available!
Area congregations are being targeted as a part of a fraud effort. Emails are circulating that seem to be either from Pastor Christine, or from someone who claims to have talked to Pastor Christine. Do NOT send money, gift cards, or even respond to the emails. They are very cunning in their attempts. Pastor Christine will never ask you for money or gift cards via email. If in doubt, please open a separate email and contact her directly or call the office. You can ‘inspect’ email addresses. Often upon doing this, you’ll note that it is not the same address that Trinity uses or Pastor Christine uses.
Join us for Worship this Sunday!
Three weeks ago we heard Peter’s confession of faith as told in John’s gospel. This week we hear Mark’s version, when Peter says, “You are the Messiah.” In John, the stumbling block is Jesus’ invitation to eat his flesh, given for the life of the world. In Mark too the scandal has to do with Jesus’ words about his own coming death, and here Peter himself stumbles over Jesus’ words. But Jesus is anointed (the meaning of messiah) in Mark only on the way to the cross (14:3); so we are anointed in baptism with the sign of the cross.
On Sunday, August 29th (@9:30am) we began indoor in person worship. You can read about our decision and the protocols in place here (signup is necessary HERE or through the church office). We will also be offering a live stream option for those who would prefer to worship at home or while on vacation (accessible through our webpage or Youtube channel). We know there is a lot of change happening, and we hope these changes will allow us to worship in a more familiar format, while providing extended access to those who cannot attend in-person. If you have questions, please reach out to Pastor Christine (email@example.com).
Music Leaders Needed
“During our transition to livestreaming, we are also moving our music indoors. Until it is safe to sing as a congregation again, we will continue to invite cantors to sing hymns like we did for the outdoor services this summer. If you would like to lead hymns or provide an instrumental offering during worship, please sign up using the following link, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org, or talk to me directly on Sunday morning.
Worship Assistants Needed!
In order for our services each Sunday to run smoothly, we need your help! Please contact the church office if you are available to help as a: lector, cantor, welcome team member, altar guild, teller, or online greeter.

A rental truck has been reserved. We are going to try for Saturday, September 18th, with a rain date of Saturday, September 25th. Start time to be determined, but will be in the morning. Since Pam and Kim are away for a bit, please contact me if you are willing to help out. Thank you. Since Pam and Kim are away for a bit, please contact me if you are willing to help out. Thank you.
Special Adult Forum – The Humble Walk, 9/19
To bookend our discussions about welcoming the stranger and refugees from Central America, you are invited to come hear about the week-long immersion program that The Humble Walk (UMD campus ministry) students participated in over the summer. The students will join us for worship and then we will transition to live stream the conversation with them from Trinity to Zoom so all may join us. We will also be taking a special collection that Sunday to support the work of Iglesia Luterana Cristo Rey, the congregation who leads the immersion program and works with the refugees. If you will not be attending in person, please consider giving electronically or with your mailed in offering. The experience was powerful. Come, welcome them and hear their stories.
Stephen Ministry Training at Trinity
A new Training class for Stephen Ministers will begin on Friday evening, September 24. Stephen Ministry is a lay ministry in which the Stephen Minister is trained to care for someone on a one-to-one basis and meets with that person once a week, on average, for as long as the person needs care. Would you like to train to become a Stephen Minister and walk with another Christian who is going through a difficult time in their life? If so, please let Pastor Christine, Susan Smith, or Miriam Mendenhall know. The course takes 50 hours to complete and meets twice a month, September through March. We’d love to have you join our Training class and become a Stephen Minister for Trinity.

A Quick Note on the Living Faith Food Collection
Starting with the September 18th food drive and running through October 3rd we will be collecting pet food for the Montgomery County Humane Society pet food pantry. MCHS is looking for unopened, unexpired, non-Rx wet or dry dog food, cat food and cat litter in plastic containers. They need a wide variety of food – baby to senior: they like to give the same food the animal is used to eating if possible. Smaller bags are best. They can’t open and divide large
bags. If we can donate a variety of small bags that will be ideal. Contact Leslie S. for details or questions.
Summer Collection School Supplies for Lutheran World Relief (LWR)
Guess What? What? We collected enough school supplies to reach our goal of 200 school kits for Lutheran World Relief! We will be putting the kits together after worship on September 12 (this Sunday). Please stay after worship to hear about the work that LWR does, and to help us put the kits together. Weather Permitting, we will be putting the kits together outside in the parking lot. Weather not permitting, we will be in the Social Hall, masked. We will also have kits to take home to make dog toys for the Montgomery County Humane Society.
