Sunday Adult Forum

Meets most Sundays during the school year and may focus on a book or theme of the Bible, an ELCA social statement, or any number of other topics as they relate to our faith.

This fall (2026) the Adult Forum Series will explore:

Truth Speaks to Power by Walter Brueggemann, the William Marcellus McPheeters Professor Emeritus of Old Testament at Columbia Theological Seminary and an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ.

Brueggemann invites readers to take a closer look at the subversive messages found within the Old Testament. Truth Speaks to Power explores the radical and subversive political implications of the Bible. Brueggemann asserts that the Bible presents a "sustained contestation" over truth, in which established institutions of power do not always prevail.

During our class discussions, we will pay attention to who in the stories thinks they have the power and how God’s truth challenges that assumption.

2nd Saturday of the month, 5:30, Room 10 (Education Wing)

This fall we are introducing two new opportunities to gather for discussion and fellowship. Every other month we will read and discuss a book from a varied and curiated list. In the months between the books, we will watch a movie together and discuss it afterwards.
